In 2016, Judge Johnson was selected by her colleagues to serve as Chief Judge of the DeKalb County Superior Court. As Chief Judge she is responsible for several administrative duties including overseeing the day-to-day management of the courthouse and various programs administered by the Superior Court including the Law Library and Family Law Information Center. Prior to taking the bench, Judge Johnson served as a Senior Assistant District Attorney and as an Assistant Solicitor-General in DeKalb County.
A native of DeKalb County, Judge Courtney Johnson is a graduate of Georgetown University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Government. Judge Johnson graduated from Emory University School of Law and had the opportunity to prosecute her first case as a third-year law student. Today, she judges local high school mock trial competitions each year and hosts high school interns in her chambers every summer.

Judicial Efficiency
Since taking the bench, Judge Johnson has worked hard to streamline the disposition of cases to significantly reduce the overall caseload in Division One and ensure that cases are handled as efficiently as possible. Each division of the Superior Court handles approximately 1,000 cases each year. Chief Judge Johnson is also proud to say that her staff is competent, courteous, and responsive.
